It was a night to forget for Tottenham Hotspur at the Metropolitano Stadium as they succumbed to a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Life as a Spurs manager hasn’t exactly gone to plan for Igor Tudor.

The Croatian boss was brought in to steady the ship after Thomas Frank’s torrid time in charge.

Four games later, however, and Tudor’s Spurs are yet to get off the mark.

Now, their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 thrashing by Atletico Madrid may just have seen Tottenham hit an all-time low.

Kinsky’s dream turns into a nightmare

Following a string of poor performances by first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, many Tottenham fans were calling for change.

Up stepped 22-year-old Antonin Kinsky, who signed from Slavia Prague last January.

Having hardly featured at all for the club across the last 14 months, Tudor decided that the bright lights of the Metropolitano Stadium was the perfect opportunity for the youngster to show his mettle.

What was a huge moment for Kinsky soon turned extremely sour; indeed, his cameo couldn’t have gone any worse.

Kinsky was substituted in the 17th minute, having conceded three goals – two of which came directly from his own mistakes.

When asked after the game about his decision to start Kinsky, Tudor defended himself.

“After you see what happened, it’s the wrong decision. But it was the right decision before,” he said.

“A change of competition, it was the right moment. Unfortunately, what happened, happened.”

Tudor didn’t so much come under fire for the substitution, but the way in which the situation was handled.

When Kinsky left the pitch, at a time when he really needed support and reassurance, Tudor failed to acknowledge his presence.

The young keeper headed straight down the tunnel, where he was followed by team-mates Dominic Solanke, Conor Gallagher and Joao Palhinha.

When Tudor was asked if he had spoken to Kinsky, he said: “We don’t need to comment. It’s not the moment to speak too much.

“I spoke to Tony [Kinsky] afterwards, I said he is the right guy, a good goalkeeper, but unfortunately this happens in this big game, big mistakes.

“After that start to the game, it was too much for us in this moment when we are fragile, weak … everything, unbelievable.”

Is Igor Tudor fit for purpose?

Tottenham are in a terrible situation.

Not only are they now facing near-certain elimination from the Champions League, but they are genuine Premier League relegation candidates.

Spurs are one point clear of the drop as things stand, and with huge matches against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on the horizon, every small decision is make or break.

There is one massive decision to be made surrounding Tudor, though: stick or twist?

He’s only had four games, but those four games have, from a Spurs standpoint, been nothing short of shocking.

A 4-1 loss to Arsenal, a 2-1 loss to Fulham, a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace and now a 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid.

It’s not just the losses, but the manner in which they come about.

Spurs are imploding.

If the board do deem the manager to be at fault, they need to act fast to source a replacement.

The trouble is, who could fix this situation?

Names like Tim Sherwood, Harry Redknapp and Sean Dyche have done the rounds as potential interims.

When asked about his future, Tudor said: “It’s not about me. We need to stay calm. Less talking. Better less talking.

“Now is not the moment to try and give a big explanation.”
