Mikel Arteta has agreed a new contract with Arsenal, committing his future to the Premier League champions as he continues to lead the club into a new era.
The Spaniard’s previous deal, which was signed in September 2024, was due to expire next summer.
However, after leading Arsenal to the Premier League title last season, Arteta has now agreed to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
The new agreement is expected to be confirmed during the current international break, bringing an end to the uncertainty surrounding the manager’s future.
Arteta commits his future to Arsenal
Arteta joined Arsenal in December 2019 and has since overseen a major transformation at the club.
The 44-year-old initially took charge during a difficult period for the Gunners, but gradually helped build a side capable of competing for major honours.
His work was rewarded last season when Arsenal won the Premier League title, giving the club its first league championship since 2004.
Arteta had previously made it clear that there was no reason for concern over his contract situation.
When asked about his contract situation ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Brighton on Saturday, September 19, Arteta said: “I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about.
“I think we both have the same ambition and the same will. So whenever we have time, we’ll get that resolved.”
The new agreement now puts an end to the uncertainty surrounding the manager’s future and allows Arteta to continue focusing on Arsenal’s push for more silverware.
Arsenal look to build on Premier League title
The contract extension comes at an important point for Arsenal, who are now looking to defend their Premier League crown while competing for further trophies.
The club have also strengthened their squad during the summer, including the additions of Ezri Konsa, Bruno Guimaraes and other new signings as they look to compete on multiple fronts.
However, Arsenal have already suffered a setback this season after losing 3-0 to Brighton in their latest Premier League fixture.
That result ended their perfect start to the campaign, but Arteta’s new contract shows that the club remain committed to the project that has developed under his leadership.
With the manager now set to remain at Arsenal beyond his previous deal, attention will turn towards what else he can achieve with the Premier League champions in the coming seasons.
