Nottingham Forest news: Vitor Pereira and Thomas Frank in the running to replace sacked Sean Dyche

Former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche has become the eighth Premier League manager to get the sack this season.

The news of his departure comes after Nottingham Forest’s disappointing 0-0 stalemate at home against bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Forest currently find themselves 17th in the Premier League table, just three points above the relegation zone.

Here, Sport Just Sport writer Emily Clogg takes a look at the bookies’ favourites to become the new Forest manager.

Vitor Pereira – 3/10

Far and away the bookies’ favourite to step into the dugout at the City Ground is Vitor Pereira.

He has managed a whole host of clubs all across the world, including Fenerbahce, Porto, Olympiacos, Flamengo, and most recently, Wolves.

After achieving Premier League survival in his first campaign, Pereira’s time in the Black Country ended on a sour note.

He was sacked in November 2025 after a dreadful start to the season saw Wolves gain just two points in their opening 10 league fixtures.

The Portuguese manager has been jobless ever since, and is reportedly in talks with Nottingham Forest to take on the difficult task of turning the club around.

This could be a slight risk, given how badly his last job ended, but Forest would be hoping Pereira’s wealth of experience could ultimately outweigh his recent struggles.

Thomas Frank – 1/5

The news of Dyche getting the boot came just 24 hours after that of Thomas Frank.

Tottenham fans were excited at the prospect of having Frank in the dugout following his undeniable successes over in west London with Brentford.

Frank took charge of the Bees back in 2018 and guided them from the Championship to the Premier League in just three seasons.

The Dane was widely regarded as one of the best managers in the division, receiving multiple ‘Manager of the Month’ and even ‘Manager of the Season’ nominations.

Many thought Frank would eventually move on to bigger and better things, and when Ange Postecoglou was sacked as Spurs boss, an opportunity arose for Frank.

Life in north London was not what anyone had envisioned for him, though.

Winless in eight Premier League matches and just five points outside of the drop zone, Frank was sacked as Spurs manager just 24 hours before Dyche left Forest.

With his proven quality at the wheel of a lower-half side, though, the Forest vacancy could be a perfect fit for Frank.

Robbie Keane – 11/2

Following a string of assistant roles across club and international level, Keane took on his first managerial role at Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2023.

It was a move riddled with controversy from his homeland of Ireland, where many fans and politicians alike were disappointed with Keane’s decision to take charge of an Israeli outfit.

Keane stressed he didn’t want to be involved in politics and that his full attention was on the action on the pitch.

During his time in charge, Maccabi Tel Aviv won both the Israeli Premier League and 2024 Toto Cup.

Keane is currently the manager of Hungarian NB1 side Ferencvarosi, who are level on points with Gyor at the top of the table.

As a legend of the Premier League with iconic spells at the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Leeds United, a return to English football could be an intriguing move for Keane.

Mauricio Pochettino – 11/2

Another name being discussed for the Forest job is Pochettino.

The former Spurs, Chelsea and PSG manager is currently the head coach of the United States national team.

He started his managerial career at Espanyol, where his attractive style of football and promotion of youth players led Southampton to take a risk on his services.

The Argentine impressed at St Mary’s as he took his Saints side to the dizzying heights of eighth in the Premier League table, drawing attention from Spurs.

Pochettino was very successful during his five-year spell at Spurs; they became one of the best sides in the country and even went all the way to the Champions League final in 2019.

After Tottenham came PSG and Chelsea, where he failed to impress at quite the same level.

Currently in charge of the US National Team, and with a World Cup on home soil to look forward to this year, this might be more of a managerial move for the summer.

Roberto De Zerbi – 6/1

De Zerbi is another manager who has recently left his role.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss had been in charge of Ligue 1 giants Marseille since June 2024, but has recently left the club by mutual consent.

De Zerbi has made a name for himself all across Europe as a very attack-minded manager who adopts an aggressive press and demands the most out of his players.

Before his spell at Brighton, the Italian had been in charge of a number of clubs, including Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Everywhere he has been, he has been endlessly praised for his brand of football.

Whether that’s what Forest need or not right now is another story.

Whilst fun, positive football could be a breath of fresh air at the City Ground, it tends to be stability and security that make the biggest difference in a relegation scrap.
