Tottenham have sacked manager Thomas Frank with immediate effect after just eight months in charge.

The 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday proved the final straw for the Dane, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

Spurs currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, only five points clear of the relegation spots.

Spurs announce Frank sacking

In an official statement, Tottenham said: “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.

“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.

“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the club forward.

“We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Dane’s position was ‘untenable’

“Thomas Frank had people supporting him, who didn’t want to make this decision, but it had become untenable,” explained Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge.

“The defeat to Newcastle – it had to be it. It was a really bad atmosphere.

“Tottenham didn’t want to do this but they’d lost the fans. There was no way back. It had to be done.

“They had to make a decision. They have got Arsenal in 12 days time and it is not the game anyone wants.”

On Frank’s possible replacement, Bridge added: “They will be talking now about a replacement or an interim.

“It’s not definitely an interim. Hopefully, we will get some information on that later.

“Whoever will be looking after the club against Arsenal will have a humungous amount of talent and players out and will only have about 11 or 12 senior players to choose from.”
