Premier League - Man City title hopes end as Bournemouth draw crowns Arsenal champions

Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title came to an end on Tuesday, May 20, after a dramatic 1-1 draw away to AFC Bournemouth.

The result officially handed the title to Arsenal and ended Man City’s hopes of being crowned kings of England once again.

Man City travelled to the Vitality Stadium knowing only a win would keep the title race alive heading into the final day.

Instead, they were left frustrated by a Bournemouth side that continued their remarkable season.

Bournemouth strike first

The home side took the lead late in the first half through teenage forward Eli Junior Kroupi, who produced a brilliant finish to put Bournemouth ahead and spark celebrations around north London.

The goal stunned Man City and increased the pressure on a side desperate to stay in the race.

Man City pushed for a response after the break and controlled large parts of the game, but Bournemouth defended strongly and looked dangerous on the counter-attack.

As the minutes ticked away, it looked like Man City would leave empty-handed.

However, Erling Haaland rescued a point in stoppage time with a late equaliser.

It gave Man City brief hope, but there was not enough time left to find a winner.

Arsenal finally get over the line

The draw moved Man City onto 78 points, four behind Arsenal with one game remaining, making it mathematically impossible to catch Mikel Arteta’s side.

It means Arsenal have won the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years.

There was also more history for Bournemouth, who secured European football for the first time in the club’s history after extending their unbeaten run.

End of an era approaching

The result also carried extra significance because it could be one of the final chapters of Pep Guardiola’s time at Man City.

Reports suggest this is expected to be his final season in charge, making the draw an emotional moment in a campaign that now appears set to end without another league crown.

After years of dominance, Man City’s title grip is over.

Arsenal are champions, Bournemouth are making history, and the Premier League has a new story to tell.
