Former Bolton striker Jared Borgetti believes Mexico midfielder Gilberto Mora is ready to become a Premier League star, saying he ‘has the talent and the mental strength to succeed’ in the top tier of English football.

The 17-year-old playmaker was one of the breakthrough stars of the 2026 World Cup, producing performances that belied his tender years and attracted admiring glances from some of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Currently playing for Liga MX club Tijuana, the wonderkid reportedly has a £20million release clause that a host of top Premier League clubs are interested in activating including Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

PL interest in Mora no surprise

Borgetti, who is third in the all-time record goalscorer list for Mexico, told 10bet: “A lot of clubs are looking at Gilberto Mora, and it’s not a surprise.

“Having the biggest clubs in England looking at you, that will give him a boost, but the motivation for him to do well is already there.

“Mora has shown he has the quality and the ability that, regardless of his age, height, or weight, he possesses the intelligence to overcome any adversity.

Talent and mental strength

“Obviously, given his youth, he still has a lot of growing and learning to do, but with the quality he has in his feet, and above all, in his head, to get things right, I am certain he could succeed in any league he sets his sights on,” Borgetti continued.

“Hopefully, opportunities will come his way, and Mora can make the most of them to become a great player for Mexico.

“He’s ready to grab any opportunity that comes his way.

“He has the talent and the mental strength to succeed in the Premier League, even for one so young.”
