The San Antonio Spurs capitalised on a rare off-night from Karl-Anthony Towns to defeat the New York Knicks 115-111 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, June 9.
After playing a pivotal role in New York’s victories in Games 1 and 2, Towns struggled to impose himself offensively as the Spurs clawed their way back into the series.
The result cuts the Knicks’ lead to 2-1 and hands San Antonio valuable momentum heading into Game 4.
Towns unable to repeat early-series impact
Through the opening two games, Towns had been one of New York’s most influential players.
Game 3 proved a different story.
The Knicks big man finished with 11 points and shot 4-for-10 from the field despite spending 38 minutes on the floor.
While New York still received strong performances from several starters, the lack of production from Towns removed one of the key advantages that had helped the Knicks secure their early series lead.
Jalen Brunson finished with 32 points, five rebounds and five assists, while OG Anunoby added 28 points on highly efficient shooting.
Josh Hart also delivered one of his best performances of the finals with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Wembanyama takes control
San Antonio’s superstar made sure the opportunity did not go to waste.
Victor Wembanyama produced 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals in a complete display at both ends of the court.
The Spurs also received major contributions from Stephon Castle, who scored 23 points, and Dylan Harper, who added 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
After several costly mistakes late in Game 2, San Antonio showed far greater control in key possessions to close out the victory.
Finals pressure intensifies
The Knicks remain in front, but Game 3 served as a reminder of how quickly momentum can shift in a championship series.
“I tell the guys, it’s a seven-game series for a reason,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said.
“They are a great team. They are well-coached. They have an iconic player. It’s not going to be easy.”
For New York, Game 4 now becomes an opportunity to re-establish control.
For San Antonio, it represents a chance to erase their early deficit and turn the NBA Finals into a best-of-three series.
