Marco Silva has confirmed he will leave Fulham this summer after five years in charge, bringing to an end one of the most successful managerial spells in the club’s recent history.
The Portuguese coach’s contract expires at the end of June, and reports suggest he is now closing in on a move to Portuguese giants Benfica.
Silva had been offered a new deal by Fulham, but uncertainty surrounding his future had grown throughout the final months of the season.
His departure marks the end of a period that saw Fulham evolve from a Championship side into an established Premier League outfit.
After arriving in 2021, Silva guided the club to promotion at the first attempt before overseeing four consecutive seasons in the top flight.

Building stability and raising expectations
Silva’s impact on Fulham goes far beyond league positions. While the club finished 10th, 13th and twice in 11th place under his leadership, he helped create a level of stability that had often eluded Fulham in previous Premier League campaigns.
The Cottagers were even discussed as potential contenders for European qualification during several points of Silva’s tenure, a testament to the progress made under his guidance.
Despite operating with a budget significantly smaller than many of their Premier League rivals, Fulham consistently competed comfortably in mid-table and avoided being drawn into relegation battles.
The club ended the 2025/26 season on a positive note with a victory over Newcastle United, securing another 11th-place finish and providing a fitting conclusion to Silva’s final campaign.

Emotional farewell as Benfica beckons
In a farewell message to supporters, Silva thanked Fulham fans for their unwavering backing throughout his time at Craven Cottage.
He described the club as a place that will always remain close to his heart and hinted at a possible return in the future.
Fulham owner Shahid Khan paid tribute to Silva’s contribution, acknowledging that while change is inevitable in football, the club had prepared for this moment and would begin the search for a successor immediately.
With Benfica reportedly preparing to appoint Silva as their next manager, the 48-year-old now appears set for a return to his homeland and a new challenge in European football.
For Fulham, replacing the man who delivered promotion, stability and renewed ambition will be no easy task.
Silva leaves having not only established the club in the Premier League, but also raising expectations of what Fulham can achieve moving forward.
