Willie Mullins has confirmed that the 11/8 ante-post favourite for the Triumph Hurdle, Narciso Has, is out of next month’s Cheltenham Festival after suffering a setback.

The JP McManus-owned four-year-old had been at the top of the market for the two-mile novice hurdle on the Friday of the festival.

This came after a commanding display at the Dublin Racing Festival, at Leopardstown, earlier this month.

Mullins’ charge defeated stablemate Selma De Vary by four lengths to enhance his Cheltenham credentials.

Mullins confirmed Narciso Has’ absence to Sporting Life, saying the juvenile suffered a setback and that they are not yet sure if he will race again this season.

In the meantime, the Rich Ricci-owned Selma De Vary has assumed the head of the market.

Proactif to fly the flag

She is closely followed in the betting by Proactif, who will now look to fly the flag for Mullins and McManus.

Narciso Has’ setback is a major blow for connections and punters alike, with the classy novice being one of the festival ‘bankers.’

Mullins will be hoping that the setback is not too severe and that his charge will be able to make the Aintree or Punchestown festivals.

It is safe to say, though, the Cheltenham Festival will certainly rue the absence of one of its most exciting stars.
