Former England, Manchester City and West Ham left-back Wayne Bridge believes that Manchester United would obviously welcome Cole Palmer at Old Trafford.

The former Man City playmaker has excelled at Stamford Bridge, and while Bridge sees the appeal of the player for United, he urged Chelsea to keep hold of the England international.

And after Palmer’s recent fitness problems, he warned that everyone involved in the player’s recovery has to make sure his fitness is protected to keep his career in the ascendancy.

The main man at Chelsea

When asked if a move to Manchester United would make any sense, Bridge told an exclusive interview with10bet: “It probably makes sense for Cole Palmer because he’s a Man United fan. But personally, I don’t know him, so I wouldn’t know what he’s thinking.

“It might make sense for Manchester United – every club would love to take Cole Palmer – but it doesn’t make sense for Chelsea. As an ex-Chelsea player, I’d be gutted if he went there.

“I’d have a word with him and say, “Look, remember what happened to Mason Mount – come on now, don’t go anywhere.

“He’s the main man at Chelsea. Chelsea wants to build the team around Cole Palmer.”

Perhaps pushed too soon

On Palmer’s fitness problems at Chelsea this season, Bridge added: “I’m not in the building at Chelsea, so it’s hard to say. It can come down to the player, the physios, or just bad luck.

“As a player you want to play all the time, so sometimes you might push it.

“Maybe you need an extra few weeks to get your fitness up, maybe the manager or coaches bring you back too soon – there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

“Player welfare does need to be managed properly though.

“When you look at injuries across the Premier League, the one club that might need to look at themselves is Spurs because of the number of injuries they’ve had. Something can’t be right there.”
