Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has suggested Benjamin Sesko needs to be patient following the striker scoring off the bench once again to secure a 1-0 against Everton.
United have now won five of their six matches under Carrick, with Sesko scoring three goals in the past four games as a substitute.
The Red Devils now have a three-point cushion over fifth-placed Chelsea thanks to Sesko’s 71st-minute winner in their battle for Champions League qualification.
Super sub Sesko
The Slovenian striker had struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford, however six Premier League goals in 2026 has United’s summer signing flying.
Whilst the goals have been coming thick and fast for the 22-year-old, interim manager Carrick is yet to feature Sesko from the start and suggested he must bide his time to establish a place in the first XI.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Carrick said: “He’s in a good place at the moment. We’ve had some really good talks. Patience is one thing for him. Waiting and developing as a player here.
“He understands that. He’s going to be a big player for us for a long period of time, I’m sure of that.
“We’ve got to manage that. We’ve got some top forward players. He’s made a big difference for us when he is on the pitch.”

Digging deep
Wins against Manchester City and Arsenal gave Carrick the bounce he needed to galvanize a struggling group, yet the results against Everton and West Ham reveal more about his sides’ character.
Whilst the win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium wasn’t the prettiest showing, Carrick expressed his delight with the grit shown against a dogged David Moyes team.
“We had the first four games and the first four wins in a row, with some really good performances in there,” he continued
“I expected a period where we would have to find ourselves a little bit and get a result.
“We did it to a point at West Ham and we did it today. That spirit, sacrifice and willingness to work for each other as a team.
“The way we had to defend our box together at the end of the game. In the end, a clean sheet and a massive win for us.”
Carrick’s Manchester United host Crystal Palace next as they look to make it seven games unbeaten as the arguments for giving the former player the full-time manager role grow stronger.
