England manager Thomas Tuchel has put pen to paper and extended his deal through to Euro 2028.
He took on the role at the beginning of 2025 and will be in the dugout for the Three Lions’ World Cup charge this summer.
Tuchel has been tentatively linked with various moves away from his role as England boss, including a return to club football.
Rumours of Tuchel taking over at Manchester United had heated up following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, but this new deal puts that speculation to bed.
Here, Sport Just Sport writer Emily Clogg takes a look at why England have extended Tuchel’s deal.
Tuchel’s time so far
It may come as a surprise that Tuchel’s contract is being extended before his England side have kicked a football at a major tournament.
The German manager will, of course, be in charge during the World Cup this summer, with England going into the competition as one of the favourites.
There will be major disappointment if the Three Lions fail to make it to the latter stages of the tournament, and some may even consider anything but a trophy an outright failure.
This is an England squad with an abundance of talent and experience; players such as Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Declan Rice, and Bukayo Saka just scratch the surface of the depth in quality at Tuchel’s disposal this summer.
So far, Tuchel has been nothing short of a success as England boss.
They have won nine of their 10 matches and became the first European team in World Cup history to concede zero goals in qualification.

A look ahead to the future
Tuchel’s extension takes him all the way to Euro 2028, which will be a special one for the Three Lions.
The tournament will be held in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
This will be a huge moment for English football, and with much of the current squad potentially reaching their peak around the time of the competition, all eyes will be on the trophy.
Pressure on England to win the tournament will be enormous, but Tuchel seems up for the challenge.
If the Three Lions have a disastrous World Cup campaign, eyebrows will be raised as to why a contract extension was agreed so early.
If the tournament goes to plan, however, there will be a lot for England fans to get excited about ahead of a home-soil Euros.
