Man City ended their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in Seoul after recovering from a first-half deficit.

Enzo Maresca’s side fell behind against the run of play at Seoul World Cup Stadium when 16-year-old Jorge Dominguez reacted quickest to score from close range.

Man City controlled much of the first half but were unable to convert their opportunities, before a much more clinical second-half display turned the game around.

Semenyo the key for Maresca

Antoine Semenyo was central to the comeback, providing two assists in quick succession for Omar Marmoush.

The Egypt international twice finished from close range after being picked out by Semenyo.

Rayan Ait-Nouri then added a third late on to secure another positive result for Maresca, who has now completed his first pre-season tour since taking over as Man City’s new head coach.

Maresca was particularly pleased with the attitude shown by his players as they adapt to his tactical ideas.

“I’m very happy because the players since I joined the club, they are open-minded, they want to know, they want to do new things,” Maresca told Sky Sports.

“We are trying to install new things on the ball and off the ball. So especially these 15 days have been very important to create connections with the players.”

The Italian also praised Semenyo after the forward’s decisive contribution.

“The first thing I said to him when I joined the club was ‘I’m very happy that now you’re with us!’ Antoine played well but the effort from all the players has been fantastic.”

Marmoush notes Semenyo’s value

Marmoush also highlighted Semenyo’s influence after benefiting from both of his assists.

“Semenyo, without him, these goals wouldn’t have been possible. I just had to tap it in the net and I’d like to thank him,” Marmoush said.

With the pre-season schedule complete, Maresca and Man City’s first major test comes in the form of Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 16.
