Former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr wants to be the third man in the ring for the proposed boxing match between NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and Will Smith’s former bodyguard Charles “Charlie Mack” Alston.
In an interview with TMZ Sports on Wednesday, the flamboyant, former Olympic silver medalist did not hesitate with his answer when he was asked if he wants to serve as the guest referee for the potential bout.
Charlie Mack’s ‘neck chop’ on Shaq set up boxing challenge
The proposed celebrity clash began with Alston barking a claim that he “chopped” O’Neal in the neck after the former NBA champion tried to cut a line at an autograph session two years ago.
Charlie Mack then challenged O’Neal through Celebrity Boxing founder Damon Feldman and the 7ft 1ins NBA legend accepted the challenge via Instagram on August 18.
No fight contract has been signed yet between O’Neal and Charlie Mack
Despite the talks surrounding the clash, both parties have yet to sign a contract formalizing the fight.
O’Neal has taken up mixed martial arts training since 2000 and has been to some exhibition matches with former world champions Oscar de la Hoya and Shane Mosley, losing both stints.
On the other hand, Alston is a music industry veteran who is believed to be in his 50s.
Despite this, Celebrity Boxing has created promotional materials on the event and shared that more information will be available soon at xrumble.com.

Roy Jones Jr does concert, coaching and commentary work in Washington fight card
While the fight has yet to be finalized, Roy Jones Jr has been active in promoting boxing fights.
Recently, he promoted a card at the Legends Casino Hotel in Toppenish, Washington.
Jones was seen in the corner mentoring super middleweight Andrew Murphy and lightweight Chris Young in separate clashes.
He hopped into the broadcast booth to do some commentary in other matches and performed songs in the card, including his rap anthem “Can’t Be Touched.”
The American boxing legend said that it was a dream come true for him and it’s great for him to give the people what they want.
Jones does not have any problem performing other tasks aside from boxing during his professional career.
On June 15, 1996, he dropped 11 points for the Jacksonville Barracudas in a United States Basketball League game.
Later that night, he finished Eric Lucas in 11 rounds to defend his International Boxing Federation super middleweight title.
