Manchester City remain firm contenders to Premier League leaders Arsenal after their 3-0 walloping of Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

All three goals came from moments of assist magic, courtesy of Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki.

Antoine Semenyo and Omar Marmoush tucked away both of Foden’s assists in clinical fashion in the first half.

Cherki’s brilliantly-weighted pass for Savinho to place in the bottom corner turned the final screw of the game in the 84th minute, cementing victory for Man City.

Foden revived

“These type of games against a low block, they defend so well, you need quality, spark, talent,” Man City boss Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports regarding Foden, who has had a quiet season by his formerly high standards.

“Something that isn’t in the tactical board, not in the meeting, not in the training.

“Phil receives the ball in small spaces and creates something. The good players deliver; I’m pleased for him.

“This is a position he’s not used to, as a holding midfielder. But I saw in the last game against Brentford he was outstanding. He helped in that position. And then close the box Phil is completely unique.”

Final story yet to be told

Man City are now only two points shy of the Gunners with the same amount of games played, meaning the title race could possibly come down to the final day.

“We have to keep pushing and keep them on their toes,” Foden said.

“Lots of things can happen on the final day, I’ve experienced it many times when the game doesn’t go your way. We have our part to play.”

City ‘too good’ for Palace

“We have to accept Man City were too good for us,” Palace boss Oliver Glasner said after the game.

“You have to have a top performance at Etihad and today we couldn’t deliver that. It was ok in some parts, but not in others.

“We were not on our top level and that is why we lose.”
