Star guard Anthony Edwards starred in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 19-point comeback victory in Game 2 over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, April 21.
The Timberwolves shrugged off a lethargic 25-44 start to put pressure on the Nuggets’ offence and make big plays late.
Alongside Edwards, his supporting cast of Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo aided the fightback to avoid the Nuggets clinching a 2-0 series lead – which would have left the Timberwolves with plenty to do back in Minnesota.
Anthony ‘attack mode’ Edwards
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch praised Edwards’ intent to go downhill and cause more damage in the paint after his team’s early struggles.
“He recognised he needed to get into attack mode and get downhill a little bit more,” Finch said after the game.
“He was awesome. It was unbelievable. I think also in that period when we were down, he was great on the bench. Great leadership.”
Getting stops was key
Aside from his overall efforts of 30 points and 10 rebounds, Edwards lauded his team’s ability to get stops and make key defensive interventions.
“It was just coming together, staying poised within those moments,” he said.
“Just trying to make runs, get defensive stops. We were on one accord on the defensive end tonight, especially when they made those runs.”

Denver’s missed opportunity
The Nuggets’ one-two punch of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray performed well throughout, but the team’s lack of concentration and potency when it mattered most is what allowed the Timberwolves to take over.
Additionally, Jokic and Murray going 2-of-12 in the fourth quarter saw key buckets from DiVincenzo and Jaden McDaniels proved even more valuable late in the contest.
A more focused and clinical Nuggets team may have ended this series already, but it wasn’t to be.
With the Timberwolves back in it, Edwards and company have snatched the momentum for Game 3 in Minnesota on Friday, April 24.
