Andrea Atzeni has surpassed his previous best seasonal total of wins in Hong Kong following a double at Sha Tin on Saturday.
The Italian rider claimed wins aboard Master Lucky and Colourful King to move beyond his previous best of 58 winners and leave him in second place in the Jockeys’ Championship, behind leader Zac Purton (134 wins), on 60 winners.
Atzeni reaches milestone
On the milestone, Atzeni said: “Reaching 60 wins was a target; I thought it was a nice number and we got there today and we’ve got a few meetings left, so I can’t complain.”
Colourful King was a winner of the day’s feature race, the Class 1 Pearce Memorial Challenge Cup, with Atzeni renewing association with the David Eustace–trained four-year-old having partnered him to two wins last season.
“It was brilliant to get back on him [Colourful King],” Atzeni added.
“I rode him in his earlier days and I sort of missed him early on in the season. He did it quite well tonight.”
With his two victories on Sunday, Atzeni added over £250,000 to his total prize money, taking the 35-year-old beyond the £9 million mark for the season.

Rising star shines
Elsewhere on the card, there was an impressive performance from a rising star in Mr Incredible, with the Brett Crawford–trained three-year-old taking a rise in the weights and in class in his stride to win the Class 3 Shek Sheung River Handicap.
Crawford is confident Mr Incredible has the scope to contend in the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, which includes the Hong Kong Classic Mile (1 mile/1600m), Hong Kong Classic Cup (1m1f/1800m) and the BMW Hong Kong Derby (1m2f/2000m).
“I think he’s proven tonight that he’s going to be capable [in the Four-Year-Old Classic Series],” Crawford said.
“There’s not many three-year-olds that win in Class 3 like that, so he’s an exciting horse for next season and hopefully he’ll go further, which he definitely looks like he can.
“He’ll have a nice break now, put him away and have a nice holiday and obviously get him ready for the new season.”
In victory, he took his record to three wins from four starts, all under rider Karis Teetan, and the Mauritian was equally impressed.
“He’s a lovely horse – we always thought he was a nice horse and every time he’s gone to the races, he’s shown it, and today was a big task,” Teetan stated.
“He had a long break and to see him winning like this today was nice. We look forward to next season now.”
With five fixtures remaining in the 2025/26 season, Hong Kong racing returns to Sha Tin on Wednesday 1 July for an 11-race card.
