Paris Saint-Germain traveled to Munich to defend a 5-4 scoreline in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern on Wednesday – with the game ending 1-1 (5-6 aggregate), sending Luis Enrique’s side back to the final to defend their crown against Arsenal.

The Parisians produced a much more assured, composed performance defensively, and even threatened through wingers Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué on occasion.

As soon as PSG went up through star man Ousmane Dembélé in the third minute though, it was a game of consolidation and resolution for the most part – and their professional approach paid off.

Bayern striker Harry Kane added a consolation goal in stoppage time for Vincent Kompany and his men to go out on their swords, exiting the competition after admirable performances throughout.

Defense wins trophies

“Good memories. We could leave the match with a lot of intensity,” Enrique told Sky Sports.

“The defence were better than the attack. The character we showed against a team like Bayern is so positive.

“We’re so happy to reach a second Champions League final in a row.

One for the supporters

“It was very intense. Very difficult. They play football at the highest level. Both teams are similar, we love to press higher. We are very happy,” Enrique added.

“In two days I’m going to celebrate my birthday. I’m very happy. We’re in the next phase of the competition, the final of the Champions League.

“We want to give our supporters that kind of gift.”

The Arsenal challenge

“We are very proud that we did it again,” Kvaratskhelia told TNT Sports.

“But we have a final and we need to be ready for that game. It will be important for us of course. The best game in our life.

“We will give everything for this cup.

“It will be very difficult, of course, it’s a Champions League final so it doesn’t matter which team is your opponent.” Kvaratskhelia continued, referring to their final opponents.

“You just have to go on the pitch.”

With a dangerous attack that can hurt you at any moment, and a defense that proved to be resolute when called upon, PSG will be Arsenal’s toughest challenge this season come May 30.
