The second leg of the Champions League Knockout Round Play-offs saw it all, from last-gasp winners to thrashings and red cards.

With the tournament round now set up, this year’s tournament is heating up.

Newcastle power on to the next round

After thrashing the Azerbaijani side Qarabağ 6-1 away from home in the first leg last week, Newcastle finished the job off at home this time around.

The English side won 3-2 at home to power on through with a convincing 9-3 win on aggregate.

The second leg at St. James’ Park saw Tonali and Joelinton fire them into an early 2-0 lead, with Botman finishing the job off in the second half.

The Magpies will play either Chelsea or Barcelona in the next round, with the draw set to be made on Friday at 11:00 (GMT).

Bodø/Glimt breeze past Inter Milan

The Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt continued their dream run after stunning last year’s Finalists, Inter Milan, with a nail-in-the-coffin 2-1 away win, sending them into the next round.

After winning 3-1 in Norway in the first leg, they saw off the Italian side with a 5-2 aggregate score, with goals from Hauge and Evjen pushing them on in the second leg.

After all hope had seemed lost for the Norwegian side, they beat Man City and Athletic Madrid in a stunning turnaround to send them into the play-offs.

Boss Kjeitl Knutsen described it as a “historical moment for Bodo, and I think also for Norwegian Football”.

They will face either Man City or Sporting Lisbon in the last 16.

Atalanta stun Dortmund in late-drama

Italian side Atalanta shocked German side Borussia Dortmund in the second leg with a 4-1 win at home, overcoming a 2-0 loss in the first leg.

The Lombardy-based team won with a controversial 98th-minute penalty, to send them through with a 4-3 aggregate win.

The last gasp penalty from Samardžić saw one Atalanta player and two Dortmund players sent off in reaction to the decision.

This is the first time a team has progressed after losing the first leg of a knockout-stage game by two or more goals, since Liverpool in their 2019 semi-final tie against Barcelona.

Play-off round-up

Elsewhere, Bayern Leverkusen went through after a 0-0 draw with Olympiakos, following a 2-0 first leg win.

After a thrilling 3-3 opening leg between Atletico Madrid and Club Brugge, the Spanish side dominated the second leg with a 4-1 home win and a 7-4 aggregate.

Real Madrid saw off Benfica with a 2-1 win at home, ending the tie with a 3-1 overall score.

Despite losing the second leg 3-2, Galatasaray stopped a dramatic Juventus comeback thanks to two extra-time goals, seeing them off into the last 16 with a 7-5 aggregate.

Finally, PSG edged past Monaco with a 5-4 overall tie win, after a 2-2 draw in Paris.
