Matchday seven of eight in the Champions League saw plenty of out-of-form Premier League teams return to success, with others falling short.

With just one set of games left to play before the knockout rounds, the fight to stay alive couldn’t be closer if it tried.

Liverpool return to winning ways

It was a convincing performance for Arne Slot’s side away at Marseille as they put three past the French side on January 21, all while maintaining a clean sheet in the process.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and an own goal from Geronimo Rulli set the English side on their way despite trailing in shots and having less possession.

They now sit fourth in the overall standings, joint on points with third-placed Real Madrid.

“We have to play a lot of the time with the same players, because we have three long-term injuries, and from the start of the season we haven’t had as big a squad as some of our competitors had,” Arne Slot told BBC Sport.

“Every time the same players have to play, or most of them, then that could be a reason why maybe you run out of energy.

“But they constantly show up, they have a constant mentality, no matter how many setbacks we’ve had.”

Tottenham finally find home success

There’s no doubt that Thomas Frank is under a lot of pressure, having only won one of Tottenham’s last five Premier League games, all while sitting 14th in the table.

Their 2-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund, with first-half goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke, sees them in fifth place in the standings, just one point behind Liverpool.

After the game, Frank said: “I feel the staff is with us, I think the players are with us, the ownership, everyone wants the same thing, and we’re on the same page.

“Today was a big performance and a big win.”

Arsenal continue perfect UCL run

It was an easy away night on Tuesday as Mikel Arteta’s side picked up their seventh win in seven Champions League games this season as they beat Inter Milan 3-1.

A first-half brace from Gabriel Jesus and a goal from Viktor Gyökeres saw the London side move three points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table, with just one game left to play in the league phase.

“Very happy as well with most of the performances, which I thought were incredible,” Arteta said at the end of the match.

Chelsea edges past Greek side Pafos

Moises Caicedo’s 77th-minute winner stopped what could’ve been an embarrassing home defeat for Chelsea as they look to claim their spot in the final part of the Champions League season.

The Blues defeat of Pafos 1-0 in a vital step towards guaranteed progression.

Chelsea sit on 13 points, currently occupying the eighth and final spot of those who will automatically go through, but are tied on points with seven other teams.

Close in contention

Newcastle and Manchester City are among the seven teams on joint-13 points with Chelsea, as they too head into the final week hoping to claim a spot in the knockout stages.

On one hand, it was a convincing 3-0 home victory for Newcastle over PSV on Wednesday, but Man City suffered a shock 3-1 defeat away to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, putting them in an unwanted position of caution heading into week eight, where there is still all to play for.
