Champions League 2026: Atletico Madrid v Arsenal predictions and betting tips

Tuesday’s Champions League fixture was one of the all-time great first legs, but can the Atletico Madrid v Arsenal tie produce anything of similar quality?

Both teams are known for their more conservative style of play, so this could be a match of few goals and big defensive plays.

Atletico Madrid and Arsenal to draw at 9/4 (Sky Bet)

PSG vs Bayern Munich’s nine-goal thriller last night was a game of all-out attack, with every offensive play looking like it would produce a goal.

Atletico Madrid and Arsenal look likely to produce a game of opposite quality, with defence the bigger part of both Mikel Arteta’s and Diego Simeone’s play style.

Expect few goals, specifically from an Arsenal side that, in their last UCL round against Sporting, produced the only goal of both ties.

The combination of both these teams likely means sitting back and protecting any hint of an opposition offence attack, thus a draw being a likely outcome.

Under 1.5 goals at 2/1 (Sky Bet)

The odds for this bet might not be very good, but the lack of offensive push from Arsenal, in tandem with their ability to often concede few, means the number of likely goals is very low.

On the other hand, whilst Atletico Madrid did produce three goals across their last tie with Barcelona, they only conceded two, both of which came in one game.

In their first leg, Atletico Madrid won 2-0, but with help from a Barcelona red card, reducing them to 10 men, and giving Madrid a boost and an easier shot at the win.

Julian Alvarez to score first at 13/2 (Sky Bet)

Whilst you should expect little goals, if there’s anyone who is bound to have a crack at a goal, it’s Julian Alvarez.

One of Atletico Madrid’s star boys has been in hot form recently, most notably tucking away a stunning free kick in the last round against their countryman rivals.

Arsenal’s striking prowess is less formal, with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres unable to create the momentum by finishing chances that a team like Atletico Madrid can, despite the Gunners defensive capabilities.
