Legendary football manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season after an accolade-rich spell spanning 10 years and 20 trophies, per Sky Sports.
The news comes in the aftermath of Guardiola and Man City clinching their third FA Cup triumph in the Spaniard’s tenure on Saturday, May 16.
Additionally, Guardiola’s trophy cabinet with Man City comprises six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League and Super Cup, five EFL Cups, a Club World Cup and three Community Shield wins.
‘Disappointing’ for news to break now
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has pondered why the news has broken now, ahead of Man City’s title-deciding clash away at Bournemouth on Tuesday.
“I’m surprised that it’s broken right now,” Neville said. “Not just because it’s during this match [Arsenal vs Burnley] but it’s the night before a Man City game.
“Something like that is gamechanger news.
“They’re just such huge moments in football, and I don’t see it’s news Man City would let get out or would want out.
“If it is true, Man City will be extremely disappointed that [it] has broken now and so will Pep Guardiola.”

Decisions don’t happen ‘overnight’
Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher took an opposing view, pointing out that decisions of this magnitude don’t happen overnight, and that due to the amount of people involved, the news was more than likely going to break sooner rather than later.
“I don’t suppose Man City or Pep Guardiola can do anything about the timing,” Carragher said.
“They have to let the club know, the next guy coming in, we hear it’s [Enzo] Maresca, he’d have to have information about this.
“He would have staff who he’d have to speak to. The closer it gets to the end of the season, there’s more people who know. Eventually, it comes out.
“This wouldn’t have happened overnight you imagine. It would’ve been the last few weeks, maybe [a] couple of months.
“There’s just too many people involved for it not to come out in the end,” Carragher added.
Final day delight
After Man City’s must-win game against the Cherries, they’ll meet Aston Villa at home on Sunday, May 24.
With Sunday being the Premier League’s final matchday, the title race between Guardiola’s men and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will conclude then.
Should Arsenal win their remaining game against Crystal Palace, they will be crowned Premier League champions on the same day.
