Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw with Leeds on Monday puts West Ham back in the fight for Premier League survival, with the Hammers now only two points behind Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

A 50th-minute sensational goal from Mathys Tel and a final-quarter penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin was enough to see the sides share the spoils.

Leeds’ season is set to come to a stable end, after confirming their Premier League status for the next campaign.

De Zerbi: ‘We didn’t play calm’

“We played a good game, not great but there was big pressure,” the Spurs boss told Sky Sports. “We didn’t play calm.

“We wanted to win immediately. In the end, I think we have to fight until the end of the season. Leeds played a good game.

“We hope they play like this against West Ham because it is right like this.

‘I feel sorry for Tel’ says De Zerbi

Tel went from starman with his curling effort to villain after giving away the penalty on Ethan Ampadu for Calvert-Lewin to put away.

“I am sorry for the penalty we conceded because Mathys Tel scored a great goal,” De Zerbi said.

“He is very young and it is not a problem for me. I am happy for the attitude and mentality.

“We didn’t play well but fighting relegation is like this, you cannot play all games calm.

“We have to improve and change the habits, fighting relegation is different to fighting for Champions League.”

If the Hammers can pick up all three points at St James’ Park against Newcastle, they will go one point above Spurs, putting even more pressure on De Zerbi and his men to win away to Chelsea at the Bridge.
