In the main event of UFC Seattle, the old guard and the new wave collided with violent finality.
Joe Pyfer announced his arrival as a bona fide contender by stopping former two-time middleweight champion Israel Adesanya via TKO late in the second round, handing the “Last Stylebender” his fourth-consecutive loss.
For two rounds, the Climate Pledge Arena witnessed a fascinating tactical battle. Adesanya, 36, looked sharp in his first outing in 13 months, utilizing his patented calf kicks and elusive movement to chop down the younger, powerful prospect.
He found a home for a jumping knee and seemed to be dictating the pace, hinting that the former champion’s legendary skill set was still intact.
However, the script flipped dramatically in the second round. Pyfer, ranked No. 14 entering the bout, shrugged off the damage to his lead leg and began closing the distance.

Second-round scrap
What followed was a reckless brawl in a territory where the heavy-handed Pyfer thrives.
After a wild exchange against the fence, Pyfer cracked Adesanya with a fight-changing left hook. The former champion stumbled, and Pyfer swarmed.
Securing a takedown, Pyfer quickly advanced to mount and flattened out the fading legend.
As the Philadelphia native rained down unanswered hammer fists, referee Herb Dean had seen enough, calling the stoppage at 4:18 of round two.
The victory is the greatest of Pyfer’s career, rocketing him up the rankings of the middleweight division.
Yet, it was the post-fight moments that defined the night. Adesanya, defiant despite his slump, grabbed the microphone to silence retirement rumors, saying: “I’m not f**king leaving.
“You’ll never stop me”.
In a rare display of mutual respect, Pyfer honored the man he just beat, calling him the “greatest middleweight of all time”.
For Adesanya, the climb back to the top has never looked steeper. For Joe Pyfer, the future has never looked brighter.
