Wednesday night’s Champions League Round of 16 second legs saw Premier League teams suffer more woes as goals dominated the headlines.
The quarter-final match-ups are now set, but will these set of games be an indication of what’s to come?
Newcastle crash out via Barcelona’s thrashing
After drawing the first game at St James’ Park 1-1 against the Spanish side, there looked to be an air of hope for Newcastle, but few would have predicted a second-leg collapse such as this.
The first half of this second leg at the Camp Nou saw Barcelona and Newcastle exchange goals left, right and centre as a late penalty saw Lamine Yamal put the Spaniards up 3-2 (4-3 on aggregate).
The second half, however, was a whole different story. By the 61st minute, Barcelona had put three more past the Geordies, two from Robert Lewandowski and one from Fermin Lopez.
Raphinha would add to their pain by adding another later on, as Barcelona tore apart the Premier League side 7-2 on the night, finishing with an 8-3 aggregate overall, sending them flying into the quarter-finals.
In reaction to their defeat, Newcastle player Anthony Elanga told TNT Sports: “It’s just a shame that we lost in the manner we did.
“We could have played better. It was just a game of errors.”

Harry Kane hits 50 as Bayern advance
It was another swift night for Bayern Munich as they saw Atalanta off with a second-leg victory of 4-1 at home, following their first-leg battering of the side by six goals to one.
English star Harry Kane scored two goals on the night, taking him up to 50 Champions League goals now, with Luis Diaz and Lennart Karl supplying the other two.
Kane now has the same number of Champions League goals as Thierry Henry and Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool survive first-leg scare with dominant win
Liverpool’s first leg against Galatasaray saw them suffer a shock 1-0 defeat to the Turkish side away from home; just like the Barcelona-Newcastle match-up, the second leg was a whole different story.
Despite Mohamed Salah missing a first-half penalty, but later scoring, the Scouse side went on to win 4-0 at Anfield.
Other goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch saw them advance into the quarters with a 4-1 aggregate, as one of only two Premier League sides – the other being Arsenal.
Dominik Szoboszlai told TNT Sports: “We needed that. I think today we showed the right direction and what we want to show everybody and each other.
“It starts with us, and I know the fans can be unhappy with us, but I think it’s a good step for us.”
Tottenham head out despite win
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disastrous 5-2 away defeat to Atletico Madrid in their first leg, with player errors playing a key part in that game.
Despite beating the Spanish side 3-2 in the second leg, with two goals from Xavi Simons and another from Randal Kolo Muani, it wasn’t enough.
Atletico head through with a 7-5 aggregate victory, thanks to second-leg goals from Julian Alvarez and David Hancko.
Tottenham manager Igor Tudor told BBC Sport: “You don’t like to not get through, but it was a very good performance. It was a beautiful sensation on the pitch with the fans who were really there together with the squad and the team from the first moment.”
