Aston Martin have unveiled a new look as the team prepares for what it hopes will be a defining season in Formula 1’s new era.

The team unveiled the striking livery for its 2026 challenger, the AMR26, at a special event in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain.

Significance of the launch

This is the first Aston Martin car designed under the guidance of legendary engineer Adrian Newey, who also now serves as the team’s technical principal.

Newey’s designs have won 14 Drivers’ and 12 Constructors’ titles in F1.

It is also the team’s first season as a full works operation with Honda supplying engines under the sport’s new regulations.

Stroll outlines long-term ambition

At the evening presentation held at the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture, Aston Martin leaders spoke about ambition and long-term goals.

“The AMR26 represents a defining step for Aston Martin Aramco as we enter Formula 1’s new era in 2026.

“These regulations mark the biggest reset the sport has seen in a generation, and we are approaching it with clear ambition: to build a team capable of winning,” said Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll.

“Every move we make is by design – considered, deliberate and built for where we are going,” he added.

Newey explains AMR26 philosophy

Newey outlined the design philosophy behind the new car, saying:

“2026 is a rare moment in Formula 1 because, for the first time, the chassis and power unit regulations have changed together.

“With brand new regulations, the best philosophy is never immediately obvious, and your understanding evolves as the car develops.

“With the AMR26 we’ve taken a holistic approach: it’s not about one standout component, but how the full package works together.”

Alonso relishes long-awaited opportunity

Fernando Alonso, the experienced two-time world champion, was among those at the event and spoke with clear enthusiasm about the new chapter.

“A very proud moment, for sure,” he said, reflecting on finally getting the chance to race a car designed by Newey.

“I’ve been racing against Adrian for the whole of my career, and now, finally, I can drive one of his cars.

“So yeah, I’m very proud to be part of this family and this organisation, and I’m looking forward to succeeding together.”
