Golf news: Justin Rose impresses with dominant PGA Tour win at the Farmers Insurance Open

By Finn Littlewood

Englishman Justin Rose broke the Farmers Insurance Open tournament record this weekend, finishing with a score of -23 to win his 13th career PGA Tour title.

The 45-year-old, who last won the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August, finished seven shots ahead in a dominant performance.

This win takes the one-time major winner to third in the world golf rankings, sitting only behind the dominant duo of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.

Scheffler, who won the American Express Open last week, has started the year strong and looks set to dominate world golf for yet another year.

Record breaker

At just the third PGA Tour event of the year, Rose has already left his mark on the 2026 season at Torrey Pines, having captivated European fans at the Ryder Cup in September.

The previous record of -22 at the Farmers Insurance Open was recorded by George Burns and Tiger Woods at the 1987 and 1999 tournaments, respectively.

With an opening round of 62 at 10 under par, Rose set the standard early and continued in that vein until the very end, with no one else challenging him through a steady final round.

Most big names on the tour did not feature in this tournament, but it did include the returning Brooks Koepka, who made the cut and finished with a respectable score of four under par.

Ryo Hisatsune and Joel Dahmen were the only contenders going into the final round, both at 13 under par, yet neither looked confident of challenging the Englishman for the title.

Strong form

Since rejecting an offer to join LIV Golf four years ago, which many accepted, Rose has won three PGA Tour events, finished second in the Masters and was one of Europe’s strongest players in the 2025 Ryder Cup.

This victory seals a positive period for the ageing veteran and despite his agonising second place at last year’s Masters, it will be exciting to see what Rose can achieve in 2026.
