CM Punk is once again adorned with gold after beating Jey Uso on “Saturday Night’s Main Event” for the vacated World Heavyweight Championship.
The win marks his second championship during his run since his return to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in November 2023.
His victory over Uso also makes him a seven-time world champion in the company.
Following the event, he celebrated the win by posting a picture with fellow All Elite Wrestling alumnus Jade Cargill, Cody Rhodes and Ricky Saints, who are all champions in the WWE.
Cargill won the WWE Women’s Championship against Tiffany Straton in the same event, as Rhodes successfully defended his WWE Championship in the opening match of the night.
Meanwhile Saints is the current NXT Champion, which he won in September against Oba Femi.
The picture, which was posted on Instagram, garnered over 370,000 likes.
Back-and-forth they go
Punk’s match against Uso started slow, with the crowd split on supporting the two stars.
It was a true back-and-forth until Punk managed to surprise Uso by turning a scramble into a sneaky “GTS” but Uso slid away from the ring to prevent a pin attempt.
Punk threw Uso back into the ring after getting a water bottle from the sidelines to splash Uso awake in a show of disrespect and frustration.
The match then picked up pace with the two trading signature moves, but another “GTS” attempt by Punk was countered by Uso who unleashed a “Super Kick” into a “Spear”, and topped it off with an “Uso Splash”.
The effort was not enough as Punk kicked out at two.
The intensity did not stop there, as Uso managed to hit another “Spear” to Punk, but this time through a barricade in the timekeeper’s area.
Uso then attempted another “Uso Splash” but Punk lifted his foot to kick his opponent out of the finisher and countered it with another “GTS”.
However, Uso managed to kick out once more as the crowd went wild, including US rapper Post Malone who was sporting a cowboy hat in the front row.

Beat the yeet
The closing moments of the match saw Punk connect with a third “GTS” to Uso, as he attempted a fourth to seal the deal.
But Uso took control and snagged Punk into a “Sleeper Hold”, the same move that won him his first world title back in “WrestleMania 41” last April against Gunther.
The seasoned veteran Punk dug deep to wrench Uso into an “Anaconda Vice”, squeezing the life out of his opponent.
The match continued as Uso grabbed the rope to get out of the submission.
Uso then preyed on his fellow babyface, priming him for another “Spear”.
But Punk saw it coming, countering Uso with a knee to the face as he hit him with a fourth “GTS” to win the belt.
The 47-year-old is now primed for a proper title run as his last championship win on August 2 was cut short after Seth Rollins cashed in his “Money in the Bank” contract to end Punk’s initial reign at five minutes and nine seconds.
