Round 4 of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League concluded on Wednesday, November 4, as the league phase table continues to take shape.
Liverpool dropped points away against Fenerbahce, ending their perfect Champions League start with a 3-2 loss.
The Reds opened the scoring but failed to maintain the lead. Trey Nyoni scored 25 minutes into the game, just four minutes before Fenerbahce equalised with a deflected free-kick.
Not long after the hour mark, Alexander Isak’s first touch put the Reds in front, just three minutes after he was brought on.
However, the hosts were quick to respond when some messy play allowed Archie Brown to capitalise and bring his side back into the game.
The third goal in 10 minutes proved to be Fenerbahce’s winner, with Vedat Muriqi taking the Turkish side up to 19th.
Iraola frustrated with performance
Speaking at a post-match conference, Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola did not hide his disappointment.
“Cheap goals. Messy goals. The free-kick is quite far out, through the wall. The last goal was a long throw, the second one Cody (Gakpo) touched the ball just in front of Ali (goalkeeper Alisson),” he said.
“In the stadium it was almost impossible to communicate, it was difficult for me to give instructions and the communication was difficult between Cody and Ali.
“We conceded from a free-kick, a corner, a long throw and that has hurt us,” Iraola added.
“We have gone in front twice, we conceded in situations we should have definitely done better (with).
“It is frustrating because it is a difficult place to play and for the most part of the game we were thinking we could win this one.
“The first one the wall we didn’t set properly, the last one when he jumps he wins the ball against three defenders.
“I think before scoring the goals we had very good moments on the ball, very good offensive situations. The thing is we conceded almost straight away.
“We have been dealing well with these situations up to today. It has cost us. We have to do better.”
Man City and Arsenal enjoy away wins
The result saw the Reds drop to eighth, with nine points from four games and Manchester City ahead of them on goal difference.
Man City came out on top in a tight contest against RB Leipzig, winning 3-2, while Arsenal also picked up an away win against Slavia Praha (2-1) as they now sit third with 10 points.
