Team Europe reclaimed the Laver Cup on Sunday, defeating Team World 13-5 at The O2 in London to win the competition for a sixth time.
World number two Alexander Zverev sealed the triumph by beating Learner Tien 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.
The German had endured a mixed weekend, losing the doubles on Friday and squandering multiple match points against Alex de Minaur before bouncing back alongside Casper Ruud in a second doubles match on Saturday.
Ultimately, though, backed by team-mate Carlos Alcaraz after his recent successes, Zverev – winner of both the French Open and the US Open this year – delivered when it mattered most.
Zverev ends winless run
Having not won a Laver Cup singles match-up since 2024, Zverev was overjoyed to finally come out on top in a one-on-one situation against Tien.
“I haven’t won a match here in two years, so I’m happy that I did it,” he told Sky Sports.
“Massive credit to the entire Team World.
“They pushed us all the way again – they were champions last year.
“This year, we had a great team chemistry and I’m very happy that we won.”

Comfortable victory for Europe
On securing victory with a few rounds to spare, Zverev added: “We had three chances to close it out in the singles.
“Especially with Carlos playing after me, I think that gives me a lot of confidence and gives me a little bit of freedom to play.
“But still, it was an incredibly tough match – credit to Learner as well.
“I think Carlos is also very happy that I closed it out.
“And me too. I’m very happy that I won.”
