The Dallas Cowboys responded to their disappointing season opener with a 37-20 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
Dallas produced a much-improved offensive performance at AT&T Stadium, with Dak Prescott throwing four touchdown passes as the Cowboys moved to 1-1 for the season.
Prescott leads Cowboys response
Prescott was at the centre of the Cowboys’ impressive display, completing 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns.
The quarterback also made history by moving past Tony Romo to become Dallas’ all-time leader in touchdown passes, reaching 249 for his career.
CeeDee Lamb was Prescott’s standout target, recording eight receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Jake Ferguson also found the end zone twice, while Brandon Aubrey contributed three field goals as Dallas consistently put points on the board.
Commanders suffer Daniels setback
Washington struggled to maintain its momentum after Jayden Daniels was forced out of the game at the end of the first half.
Daniels had completed 11 of 17 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 69 yards before suffering a dislocated left elbow on the final play of the half.
Marcus Mariota took over at quarterback and helped the Commanders remain competitive, throwing a touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs in the fourth quarter.
However, Dallas responded with another Prescott touchdown pass to Lamb before closing out the 37-20 victory.
Cowboys answer after Week 1 defeat
The victory represents a strong response from Dallas following its 28-20 defeat to the New York Giants in Week 1.
Despite Washington finishing with more total yards, the Cowboys made the most of their opportunities, while Prescott and Lamb provided the offensive spark that was missing in the season opener.
Dallas will now turn its attention to Week 3, when the Cowboys face the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro, while Washington hosts the Seattle Seahawks.
